From 1974 to 1978, Audi marketed their sharply designed hatchback, the Audi 50, as an entry-level model aimed straight for the popular supermini segment where it would compete against the Renault 5 and the FIAT 127. The car was also badge engineered into the first generation VW Polo which of course became a much bigger sales success than the Audi.
