    Studs works great, on tyres meant for snow. Followed by correct tyre pressure. Width is in third place, the narrower the tyre, the less snow it has to clear in front of it and the longer contact patch it has. Here a comparison between at 125/(87)r125 Michelin X and a 135/80r15 modern radial, on the same car. Worth noticing, the Michelin X has a thread width of 85mm and the other has a width of 130mm. First two pictures are with a low tyre pressure, the next one is with correct tyre pressure. Roughly the same area. The difference in width can be seen in the next picture. Not the same tyre as in the test, but same width
