Tony Wawryk commented on the post, Youngtimers: Why I Would and Why I Shouldn't 7 years, 7 months ago
Interesting piece. Youngtimers are, obviously, going to be the next classics. Modern Classics magazine in the UK claims to be”bringing you the finest motors from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s”.
I guess it depends […] -

@gteglman and @anders-bilidt – damn you both!! ;-))

Tony Wawryk commented on the post, Manta With an Extra Dose of Vitamin A 7 years, 7 months ago
@anders-bilidt that’s the kind of thinking that will open me up to a world of pain…and I haven’t finished spending money on die Zitrone yet…

Tony Wawryk commented on the post, Manta With an Extra Dose of Vitamin A 7 years, 7 months ago
@gteglman she might have done….
@anders-bilidt I think you’re right about the Ford Capri being the more direct competitor to the Manta, and I’m with you on being happy with a standard 1.6S to cruise around in. […] -
Tony Wawryk commented on the post, The Unattainable Dream – Facel Vega and Albert Camus 7 years, 7 months ago
@yrhmblhst after doing a little reading on Facel’s it seems that the later the model, the better – most of the problems sorted out. As for the (very pretty) Facellia, yes, the engine was a disaster, though many […]

@gteglman that’s an excellent idea in theory, but would you believe she wants a Ford Puma (her first own car) for her “classic”? I’m trying not to discuss it…

Tony Wawryk commented on the post, Manta With an Extra Dose of Vitamin A 7 years, 7 months ago
@gteglman Looks great, doesn’t it? It’s seriously tempting and would give me a great excuse to clear a whole load of rubbish out of the garage, but I have a feeling my better half might have a few things to say […]

@gteglman for sure that EUR 49k Manta is bonkers, but it is (fortunately) an exception – this 1.9SR is EUR 19K, and looks damn good – it just happens to be yellow, too :-))

Tony Wawryk commented on the post, The Unattainable Dream – Facel Vega and Albert Camus 7 years, 7 months ago
What a story, Michael, thank you – and what a car! Facel’s are an incredibly rare sight in the UK, and it seems, anywhere – I can’t remember seeing one on the road, though there was one – a 1962 HK 2 – at the […]

Tony Wawryk commented on the post, Manta With an Extra Dose of Vitamin A 7 years, 7 months ago
Big Manta A fan here – I wanted one for my first car a hundred years ago; a firefighter at our local station owned a beautiful metallic blue one but said it wasn’t for sale, and I ended up with a Dolomite 1850HL […]

Tony Wawryk commented on the post, Santa’s Classic Christmas 7 years, 7 months ago
@yrhmblhst you’re forgetting that Santa’s towing his sled behind each of his classics, plenty of room for the parts you need :-)

Tony Wawryk commented on the post, Santa’s Classic Christmas 7 years, 7 months ago
@gteglman yes, Santa is a very demanding client! Still, I think he’s happy.
Hope your classic Christmas wishes come true – Merry Christmas! -

Christmas comes but once a year, and as we already know – thanks to this exclusive ViaRETRO expose last year – Santa Claus is a true classic car enthusiast just like you and I, and enjoys driving one of a num […]

@claus-ebberfeld yes, one has to hope that pun was intentional – any idea if it was?

Great photo! The Opel Kapitän was one of the first cars to make an impression on me as a very young boy. We visited our German relatives every second year at that time, and I think it was the name that did it for […]

@gteglman nothing to apologise for – I just wanted to make my point clearer as I felt that perhaps I had failed to do so.
And you are right about some of the snobbery in classic car circles – a little while […] -

All – just to be clear, I’m not calling the MGB an inferior classic car – I’m simply saying I wouldn’t want one, and gave my reasons why. That’s it.

@claus-ebberfeld about the E30, I completely agree – very dull, especially bearing in mind what came before.

I agree with pretty much all you say here, Anders, and the car for sale looks very good value. In my own defence, I did say “does nothing particularly well, but also nothing badly, and in pre-US rubber-bumper […]

Hmm…on the Biturbo I have to disagree with both my esteemed ViaRETRO colleagues – for me, it’s a completely uninspiring design, and a Maserati should be inspiring. This is all straight lines and no elegance, no […]
