Claus Ebberfeld commented on the post, Spring is here – is the Alpine? 8 years, 5 months ago
@anders-bilidt , by 2020 your Rochdale will look the same. Well, not the same, but you know what I mean :-)
And the Le Mans-trip will be one of many detours, both trough Germany and in France. Hopefully […]

Claus Ebberfeld commented on the post, European Self-Glorification – or Are We Simply Better at Cars? 8 years, 5 months ago
No, actually – Europeans ARE better at cars. At least at cars for our own conditions. Which is a main reason that I have never owned an American car either: The majority of American cars are simply too big for my […]

Monumental, Anders! And not least: Congratulations. I’ve had a thing for the Rochdale Olympic since I started in historic motor racing as I’ve always thought it was one of those cars that could make it to Goodwood […]

Claus Ebberfeld commented on the post, Spring is here – is the Alpine? 8 years, 5 months ago
@jack , to the best of my knowledge that service doesn’t work with classic cars, as their tax is determined on the basis of their price as new. But I’ll check tomorrow!
Thanks, @tony-wawryk and @da […]

Last summer I acquired a lovely Alpine Renault A310 with the clear intention of driving it a lot this year: So how did the plan fare so far?
Not that well, really – as I was once again taken by surprise by this […]

You probably would not have liked the driving experience in the Daihatsu Daimatic, though: I’d describe it as “soothing”.

Claus Ebberfeld commented on the post, Automatic for the People 8 years, 5 months ago
It’s the mileage, not the age as such, @anders-bilidt :-).
But you can have a go in the SLC next time you visit: That’s a pretty good case FOR the automatic gearbox in the right package.

Having now reached an age where I can justify driving both Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar, I’ve also started really appreciating the virtues of the automatic transmission – regardless which type.
It wasn’t alway […]

Claus Ebberfeld commented on the post, Prime Find of the Week: The Germans Can Combine Luxury With Budget Too 8 years, 5 months ago
I think the auction house is overselling a tad with the statement “One of the rarest Mercedes you will ever find”. As @tony-wawryk points out that could very well be a 200d instead.
However I am watching as […]

So far I have found one good one, @anders-bilidt .
But I agree: Would be just as right in your BMW.

Looking forward to that meeting, @tony-wawryk and @anders-bilidt .
I must admit, though, that I am probably more tolerant than you: While I would never begin an engine swop-project like this myself I have seen […]

@tony-wawryk , one day we should meet for a good rant together!
My GT6 was finished around 2005 as I recall it and today I probably would not do it like that – especially the colour. The other things are all […]

Regular readers will know that I am a great advocate of retaining originality for classic cars. And when you modify one, you should ensure to it do so tastefully.
I write when because we are hastily reaching the […]

This coming summer will see the introduction of a new Ford Mustang sprinkled with a bit of McQueen fairydust. But it’ll see some tough competition from the equally new Bandit of a Trans Am.
The new Mustang o […]

Claus Ebberfeld commented on the post, Do You Secretly Dream of a Purple Car? 8 years, 6 months ago
The Triumph TR6 is actually not bad in purple – anymore! As I recall it I didn’t like it ten years ago, though. I must have become wiser.
Of the moderns (that’s what I call everything after 1983) I think only […]

Well, I am very much into automatic gearboxes. But I am not into double-decker nose designs. Or rears, for that matter. But I must give you that the rarity factor is quite high and that the car conditionwise looks […]

It took all of 30 years before I finally got the opportunity to meet this old hero of mine – and then I learned something shocking. Here goes:
I vividly remember this car from when it was new. From the papers […]

So there IS an alternative! Thanks, @jakob356 . I always liked that Mercedes, in fact.
I love the names of those variants by the way: In Stuttgart I saw a T3 “Carthago”which is also a mighty name – but “James […]
