Visual Sunday: Torana – The Giant Killer from Down Under

We should never forget that the Aussies are just as madly in love with their powerhouse V8 muscle cars as the Yanks. But in 1972, Holden threw convention out the window and introduced the Torana GTR XU-1. This brutal little bulldog of a car made due with a 3.3-litre straight-6 sporting 3 carbs and a trick cam. Combined with smaller dimensions and lower curb weight than its V8 opponents, it was enough to make the Torana a true giant killer – both in the Australian touring car championship and not least on the road.
